Monday Talks

We are extremely fortunate in attracting some excellent and often famous outside speakers for our Monday talks each week and they are always well attended.  We ask you to come early as numbers are limited by fire regulations and    unfortunately there can be no admittance once the Hall is full.  For the list of the talks for next term, see the foot of this page.

The Easter Conference

During the Easter Break we hold a conference each year.  The themes chosen vary widely and some of our most popular co-ordinators come along to interpret them in their own special ways.   In April 2010 the subject was "The Enlightenment and its Consequences" and the speakers included Ralph Blumenau, Tony Dayan, Peter Gotlop,   Morrison Halcrow, Michael Kauffmann, Amalia Michaels, Don Moore, John Perret, and Derek Scott.  The conference covered the outstanding major events of the 18th Century and looked at developments and innovations in philosophy, politics, science, music, literature, architecture and art during that period. The conference was voted a great success by the large audience and we were delighted to welcome guests from other U3As in our Main Hall.

The Summer Programme

During the Summer break, from July until September, we run a varied and full Summer programme each year        including outside visits to stately homes, country rambles, and lectures, videos and slide shows in Hampstead Town Hall.

In 2010 there were visits by coach to Godington House and gardens, Boughton House, Waterperry gardens and the Ashmolean Museum and Parham House. There were also outings by train to the Tower Art Gallery at Eastbourne and to Guildford where a guided walk of this attractive town was arranged.

Walks on Hampstead Heath (see Page 2) and the Northern Chilterns and the Chess Valley were also on offer.

The talks in Hampstead Town Hall--as popular as usual-- were given by Michael Black, Ralph Blumenau, Tony Dayan, Peter Gotlop, Michael Kauffmann, Cynthia Landes, Shirley Levy,  Paul Lindsay, Amalia Michaels, Catherine Mulgan, Stan Rosenthal,Derek Scott, Shafeeq Siddiqui, Michael Spiro; Manny Tuckman and Evie Wohlgemuth on their favourite topics.

There were musical delights from Stan Freed and Don Moore and an opportunity to see some of Wally Howard's wonderful film archive.
