Text Box: Monday Talks

We are extremely fortunate in attracting some excellent and often famous outside speakers for our Monday talks each week and they are always well attended. For the list of the talks for next term, click on the link at the foot of this page. We have moved to the Peter Samuel Hall at the Royal Free hospital for our Monday Talks and for the talk about European history which follows. This gives us more room and more comfortable accommodation than we had at the Town Hall. However, numbers are still limited and unfortunately there can be no admittance once the Hall is full, so it is advisable to come early - especially for very popular speakers.

The Easter Conference

During the Easter Break we hold a conference each year. The themes chosen vary widely and some of our most popular co-ordinators come along to interpret them in their own special ways. In 2012 it will take place on 17, 18 and 19 April and the subject will be “Russia: From Imperialism to Bolshevism”. The speakers will include Ralph Blumenau, David Longley, Tony Dayan, Peter Gotlop, Michael Kauffmann, Michael Spiro, Don Moore, Christine Rees, Amalia Michaels and Derek Scott. They will consider the ways in which politics, science, music, literature, architecture and art changed and were changed during this dramatic period of Russian history. We will, as usual, be pleased to welcome guests from other U3As in our Main Hall; please contact us for details. The conference takes place In the week before we return in the Summer term.

The Summer Programme

During the Summer break, from July until September, we run a varied and full Summer programme each year including outside visits to stately homes, country rambles, and lectures, films and slide shows in Hampstead Town Hall.
Last year we enjoyed visits by coach to Bowood House, Hinton Ampner, Wimpole Hall and Hughenden Manor. There were also other outings, walks on Hampstead Heath and the Chiltern hills.

More popular talks and musical delights than ever before took place as usual throughout the Summer break in Hampstead Town Hall and there was an opportunity to see some of Wally Howard’s wonderful film archive..
